HAGWON V PUBLIC>
Public schools
are mostly recruited for by the Government run EPIK program. If you see
jobs advertised by agencies then these positions will probably be in
less desirable locations. 4DS
do have a limited number of public school positions available. These
schools have opted out of the EPIK program usually because the director
speaks good English and wants to have more control of who they hire. We
do not offer public schools as a sole choice, because of the limited
amount available, but you can request to add it to your other options.
If you have no teaching experience we do not recommend teaching at a
public school.
Some
points about public schools:
Class
sizes are usually around 40-50. Korean co-teacher in
class with you.
You will
be the only foreign teacher at the school. Holidays are better than
hagwons.
You will
be required to teach during the children's' summer and winter
vacations. Bizarrely students work harder on their vacations.
Hagwon
plus points:
A team of
foreign teachers at the school.
Small class sizes.
A choice
of location. Better pay for less
experienced teachers. |
